Hey! I’m Funké.
Right now I’m majoring in Journalism and minoring in Film Studies at Ryerson University in Toronto. I graduated from an arts high school where I studied film, music, art, and drama. Even though I’ve spent a lot of time with the arts, my passion lays in writing fun, thought-provoking pieces on entertainment and popular culture.
My main area of expertise is video games. Ever since I was a kid and picked up my first copy of Official Xbox Magazine, I knew I wanted to talk about games for a living. And now I do that.
I started writing about games a few years ago, and my articles garnered attention from a few editors. Eventually, I got offers from more established outlets, so I decided to start writing on a freelance basis. This allowed me to work on other cool projects, from long-form features to high profile interviews.
My creative approach—no matter the medium—is to have fun with the idea I’ve been assigned or am interested in. Video games, movies, and TV shows are compelling and weird, so I like to reflect that in my writing. I put a little bit of my goofy self into every piece I create; my articles are critical, analytical, and funny.
Constructing narratives for feature pieces, reporting the latest updates, and giving my opinions on popular culture is what I do. Ultimately, I love storytelling and making jokes.
For now, you can find links to my writing at The Game Fanatics, PlayStation Insider, The Eyeopener, and more on the Portfolio page. You can also hit me up on my Twitter for some nice jokes about games.
