It doesn’t seem like Shovel Knight knows how he got into Yooka-Laylee‘s universe, when he shows up on screen he says “Greetings adventurers! I seem to have embarked on such a grand adventure that I’ve ended up in the wrong game”.
Hopefully Playtonic will release some information on Shovel Knight’s actual role in the series, but for now we’re just left with our speculations. Is he an NPC you do quests for? Will he help you out on your journey? Or does he just have a couple of one-liners? That doesn’t matter right now though because weirdly enough, Shovel Knight seems to fit in perfectly with the already wacky world that is Yooka Laylee.
Other characters introduced were Capital B, Trowzer, Dr. Quack, Rextro, Dr. Puzz, Blasto, and Kartos. The trailer also hinted at many more unannounced characters including a couple pigs dressed up as knights, a goofy cloud, and a skeleton in a cauldron.
Yooka-Laylee, the 3D platformer that people are calling the spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie is scheduled for release early 2017 on Windows PC, Mac, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U.
